About Gastric Cancer:
- Gastric cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths in the world.
- Surgery and chemotherapy are the most common treatments for gastric cancer but are most effective when gastric cancer is detected early.
Is any progress being made towards treating and preventing it?
- Important research in medical centers and other institutions around the world have helped us learn what causes the disease and how best to prevent, detect and treat it.
- Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center is at the forefront of much of the cutting edge research. MSK doctors are global leaders in gastric cancer surgical procedures and MSK offers clinical trials not available elsewhere.
Why should I care?
- Gastric cancer is affecting younger and younger people in the U.S. and so far, doctors don’t know why.
- There have been incredible breakthroughs in earlier detection, treatment and research, but none of this progress is possible without support from you and me - often government funding is made available only after early studies demonstrate real viability, and those studies need our support!
